Science and technology are connected but different areas. Science is the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural worlds using observation and experimentation. The purpose of science is to seek knowledge for its own sake. Technology, on the other hand, is the application of scientific knowledge to practical situations. The purpose of technology is to develop products that address issues and enhance people’s lives.
While AI has the potential to improve environmental stewardship, it also brings new concerns. AI consumes a significant amount of energy, especially in data centers that fuel machine learning algorithms. Training complicated AI models may have a huge carbon impact, raising questions about AI’s sustainability.
